Sign Language- Dispute Between Neighbours

This is apparently a true story…

A town councillor in Wales had a beautiful view of the mountains, until a new neighbour purchased the land below his house and built a new home. The new home was 18 inches higher than the planning dept had approved, so, mad about his lost view, he went to the local authority to make sure they enforced the roof line height.

He won and the new neighbour had to drop the roof height, at great expense. Recently, he called the planning dept, and informed them that his new neighbour had installed some vents on the side of his new property. He didn’t like the look of these vents and asked the planning dept to investigate. When they went to his home to see what the vents looked like, this is what they found…

The Local Authority said the vents can stay since there is no planning law referring to shutter design.

Sorry…haven’t explained my self very well – still in the 140 character mode I think!! No it’s backfired on the council in that where there is a loophole in planning regs, there will always be someone willing to exploit it. You’ve got to see the funny side of the tale in that the neighbours must be so petty as to go away and think of saddling their home with such a hideous addition…I mean think about how thick they must be the poor sods…how the heck do they ever expect to sell that house now with that on on the side of it…and in Wales where conservative *Chapel values* still prevail strongly. Nice one! I suspose it’s scant compensation to the Cllr – but would he be able to place a complaint under obsenity laws if he’s upset by it, I wonder?
